03-P092 Morphogenetic cell movements and rearrangement during the early eye development in zebrafish

چکیده
In vertebrates, retinal progenitor cells (RPCs) are specified at the end of the gastrulation within the anterior neural plate (ANP) as a single domain called the eye field. From that single domain, positioned medially within the ANP, the RPCs give rise to two optic vesicles, positioned more laterally. How this dramatic morphogenetic remodelling occurs is not well understood. We will show that soon after their specification, RPCs do not present a classical neuroepithelial appearance, with apical and basal sides; instead, RPCs seem to be randomly oriented and present a more mesenchymal morphology. Less than an hour later, the RPCs have organised into a neuroepithelium with all their apical sides oriented towards the lumen of the eye field. This reorganisation is followed by the splitting of the eye field and the evagination of the optic vesicles. We will discuss the potential role of the Wnt/PCP pathway and the transcription factor Rx3 in these cellular rearrangements as well as the role of the morphogenetic movements of surrounding tissues (prospective telencephalon and hypothalamus) in the splitting of the eye field.

Dynamic Coupling of Pattern Formation and Morphogenesis in the Developing Vertebrate Retina
During embryonic development, pattern formation must be tightly synchronized with tissue morphogenesis to coordinate the establishment of the spatial identities of cells with their movements. In the vertebrate retina, patterning along the dorsal-ventral and nasal-temporal (anterior-posterior) axes is required for correct spatial representation in the retinotectal map. However, it is unknown how...
متن کاملGene Expression Patterns of Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMPs) During Early Embryonic Development in The Annual Killifish Austrofundulus Limnaeus
Let us know how access to this document benefits you. Abstract The developmental pattern of the annual killifish Austrofundulus limnaeus is unusual compared to other fish. First, the cell movements associated with gastrulation are separated from formation of the embryonic axis. In addition, embryonic diapause can occur. Diapause II and III are often observed when embryos are incubated at 25 o C...
متن کاملProtein Phosphatase 1 β Paralogs Encode the Zebrafish Myosin Phosphatase Catalytic Subunit
BACKGROUND The myosin phosphatase is a highly conserved regulator of actomyosin contractility. Zebrafish has emerged as an ideal model system to study the in vivo role of myosin phosphatase in controlling cell contractility, cell movement and epithelial biology. Most work in zebrafish has focused on the regulatory subunit of the myosin phosphatase called Mypt1. In this work, we examined the cri...
متن کاملDevelopmentally Restricted Actin-Regulatory Molecules Control Morphogenetic Cell Movements in the Zebrafish Gastrula
Although our understanding of the regulation of cellular actin and its control during the development of invertebrates is increasing, the question as to how such actin dynamics are regulated differentially across the vertebrate embryo to effect its relatively complex morphogenetic cell movements remains poorly understood. Intercellular signaling that provides spatial and temporal cues to modula...
متن کاملThe role of Ppt/Wnt5 in regulating cell shape and movement during zebrafish gastrulation
Wnt genes play important roles in regulating patterning and morphogenesis during vertebrate gastrulation. In zebrafish, slb/wnt11 is required for convergence and extension movements, but not cell fate specification during gastrulation. To determine if other Wnt genes functionally interact with slb/wnt11, we analysed the role of ppt/wnt5 during zebrafish gastrulation. ppt/wnt5 is maternally prov...
